2009 Loire Challenge route directions

Details have been announced of the Heald Solicitors Extra Mile Loire Challenge 2009. Go to the [Events] page for full details including detailed route directions for those taking part.

43 teams entries for Loire Challenge

Despite the recession and newspapers focussing on doom and gloom, the 2009 Heald Solicitors Extra Mile Loire Challenge on 25-27 September has attracted 43 entries. Many are teams who have entered previous Challenges including some returning after a break. In total, 172 cyclists and 17 marshalls will make the trip

Martin Banham-Hall, Chairman of Extra Mile Challenges and cyclist on every challenge to date, has expressed his delight at the support and enthusiasm from so many entrants. "To be within just a couple of entries of our maximum possible of 45 teams is a fantastic achievement. This means yet again that we can look forward to amazing camaraderie, friendship and enjoyment when the Challenge kicks off. We also particularly welcome all new cyclists who have entered their first Extra Mile Challende."

The year's Loire Challenge of over 500 miles has a very atractive route and the full recce report can be read on this website - see below.

Extra Mile smashes Fundraising Barrier

Sponsorship funds raised by teams in the Heald Solicitors Extra Mile Massif Challenge 2008 have brought the total raised in six years to over HALF A MILLION POUNDS – a magnificent achievement by the teams. Most of the teams are entered by businesses, organisations and groups of friends from the Milton Keynes and Bedford area, plus some welcome friends from further afield. The teams are by no means all regular athletes – just ordinary men and women raising their game for charity. Follow the link on our [Charities] page for more information on our support for 123 charities in our first six years of operation, and the charities selected by the organisers for 2009. Go to [Events] for details of this year’s Challenge, and how you can take part.

Celebration

Participants in the Heald Solicitors Extra Mile Massif Challenge 2008 celebrated its success and meet up again with friends made along the route at a special buffet Reception on Thursday 12 March 2009. The total raised for charity was announced, and cheques handed to the organisers’ selected charities. All those who took part receive an invitation through their team leaders in early February and many local people and dignitories attended. The Mayor of Milton Keynes attended as did Bedford & Kempston MP Patrick Hall. Both were very impressed at the efforts of the organisers and participants and wished everyone success in this year's Loire Challenge.
