Covid-19 – our response..
The next Extra Mile Challenge
Our March 2020 presentation evening announced such a great amount raised for Charity from the Flanders Challenge – £75,365.
After initial planning by the organising team, we announced a tremendous and varied route for our 2020 €2 Million Challenge, starting at Le Mans in the Sarthe, traversing the Loire valley to Nantes, a trip to the seaside (actually 20 miles along the coast of the Atlantic) and a final day’s cycling in southern Brittany to finish at the regional capital, Rennes.
But sadly, because of the serious impacts on all of us from the COVID-19 pandemic – likely to last for some time yet, we have decided to postpone our next Extra Mile Challenge to 2021.
We considered WHO and Government advice and how long the pandemic may last. We also consider of paramount importance the safety of all cyclists and marshals. We consider that personal, family and business lives will in the short term take priority.
We understand that this will be a massive loss to all Challengers and their supported Charities – but we will be back better and refreshed for 2021. We know just how much our charities will need our support when we return.
Thanks to all for your messages of support. We will keep you updated on developments as the year progresses.
If the situation improves, we hope to run a small scale sportive around the date of the Challenge – September 26/27 – pencil it in your diary and keep a look out for any details!
Keep safe – and see you soon.
